POP-OUT IN CONCRETE SURFACES

Concrete pop-outs are rust colored stains on the surface of a structure. Normal concrete structures begin to decline around 40 years after their completion. Pop-outs make structural declining start much earlier, often within a few weeks or months.
The pop-out are caused by the builders inadvertently using crushed rock with pyrite mineral residua in concrete mixture. When exposed to the moisture the mineral residua in concrete corrodes and within weeks ting holes develop in the concrete body.
Pyrite is a mineral commonly founding limestone rock formations, and most of the crushed used in construction in Thailand comes from limestone mountains in the central region, including Saraburi.
In theory, an ideal crushed rock must be mineral free, according to Mr. Pichai Nimityongsakul, president of the Thai Concrete Association ( TCA).A regulation is now being drafted by the association on the required standard of crushed rock. The draft would be sent to the Engineering Institute of Thailand for use as the country ' s construction code.
Generally there is no immediate danger from these pop-outs in buildings and other structures says the Thai Concrete Association.
