OTHER ISLANDS :KOH MAAK

This is an attractive, low-lying island 16 square kilometers in size. Since there are few hills the island is widely cultivated with coconut and rubber plantations. The population is only around 500 so there is little infrastructure out side the resorts. Electricity on the island is only available between the hours of 5pm and midnight. The daily Laem Ngop ferry arrives and leaves from the pier at Ao Nid in the south of the island. Representatives from the resorts meet the ferry and offer pick up and drop off to visitors. Additionally the daily boat from Bang Bao drops off at the pier at Koh Maak resort.
There are good beaches in the bays to the Northwest and Northeast of the island and this is where most of the resorts are located. There are two PADI dive schools on the island. Lagona Divers is based at Koh Maak Resort and diving is also offered by Lazy Days. Both centers offer dive coursed and pleasure diving.

Silver Windsurfer offer windsurfing lessons and rental as well as rental of canoes. Additionally the French owners run a bakery and also rent archery equipment. Three smaller islands off Koh Maak have resorts and can be reached fairly easily from Koh Maak itself. They are Koh Kham, Koh Rayang Nok and Koh Kra Dad. A daily boat goes to Koh Rayang Nok from Holiday Beach resort at 10am and returns at 4pm. To arrange transport to the other islands contact the resorts or enquire on Koh Maak.
