Let’s get away.....
When things get to be too much and the “night life” of Pattaya needs for you to rest and recover, then it’s time to get away to an almost deserted private island. This paradise island of natural beauty and tranquility is called “koh Larn”. You can go there just for the day or longer. To get there, go to the pier on beach road in Pattaya and find the boat that will take you to Koh Larn. It will cost you the huge sum of 20 Baht each way. Can you believe it? For a smooth and easy boat ride, that’s cheap. The ship leaves the pier about every 2 hours starting at 07:00 until 18:30. It returns from Koh Larn starting at 06:30 until 17:00. It takes approximately 40 to 45 minutes. The ship docks at Tanabahn. There are motor bike taxi and Baht busses to take you to your choice of 5 different beaches and resorts or to the top of Nomsaw Mountain for a spectacular view. The taxi fares vary from 20 to 50 Baht. Now pay attention because I am going to tell you about a magical, mystical, historical and very secluded place on the other side of the mountain. This resort is for the very lucky few people who know that the resort exists and can secure a reservation. The GOLDEN CAPE RESORT is a laid back and easygoing special place on this earth. It has a camping area. It is “Shangri-La” or “Bali Hi” of old legions. It is 4 kilometers from the dock at Tanabahn. You will start to relax but your mind will race with anticipation of things to come. The roads are now new and under construction. The City of Pattaya has poured Baht Six hundred million into the improvement projects around the island. There are only 4-thatched roof bamboo bungalows that are so fun and relaxing. One of the bungalows has been rented for a year. They have a modern western and extra large bathing and showering room with sweet water for you comfort in buckets. The bamboo bungalows can sleep 2 to 4 people. The price varies. There is an open-air restaurant with a spectacular view of the beach and several small islands. There is swimming, snorkeling and diving. The small village back at the pier is fun to explore the very narrow streets. You can walk to other beaches. The menu is everything you can dream about. “Laemtong” means gold beach or gold cape. Legion says that from about 62 years ago through the beginning of World War II gold was buried in the sand or caves or on the island by smugglers or pirates or gold was found on the island. Try finding a local villager who is 65 to 85 years old and ask them what they can tell you about this “golden cape”. Don’t drive yourself crazy hunting for gold. Maybe it’s time for you to pay respects and remember family or “the Gods” at the “Sprit House” up the path from the restaurant. Go for a walk on the beach and forget about everything. This beach is a real deserted beach with character and caves. Look at the colorful little stones and pebbles. Imagine the stories from the stuff mysteriously washed up on the beach. Wonder at the magic of life that once was in the shells on the beach and breathe the fresh air from the eucalyptus forest. Listen to Mother Nature sing to you from the gentle surf. Wonder about the sea moster’s teeth. Ask about “Rambo”. Smell the flowers. It’s a geologists dream island. Set on the beach chair under the umbrella. Circle the island on a small watercraft. Eat the carved vegetables. Observe the birds and dragonfly. Dive the coral reef. It’s good for you. Dr. Chamlong Thongdee brings all of this to you. He is the retired Deputy City Manager of The City of Pattaya. Call the resort now at (09) 814-7402 or write Golden Cape Resort P.O. Box 141 Pattaya City 20260 Thailand Live long and prosper
