Why do I get a good shave sometimes and not other times? Well, it takes a sharp razor, hot water and an even layer of lather to ensure a smooth and close shave. You probably learned to shave by watching your father. But before you pass on bad habits to your sons, take a few moments to review this routine. 1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN, check the way your beard grows. The general rule is to shave in the direction of the hair growth. 2. TAKE A WARM shower or use a very warm, damp towel to open your pores and soften your beard. Never use hot water because it dehydrates the skin. 3. APPLY SHAVING CREAM OR GEL in a thin, even layer. Don’t use too much because the razor will clog. 4. WHILE SHAVING, use your free had to keep your skin taut and as flat as possible. This will give you a very close shave, without cuts or nicks. Use short strokes, starting with the sideburns, checks and neck. Finish with upper lip and chin. 5. FREQUENTLY RINCE your razor under hot water. 6. WHEN YOU’RE DON, rinse your face with cool water. Gently pat your face dry. Do not rub. 7. NEVER USE alcohol-based aftershave because it’ll sting and dry your skin. Live long and prosper.
